What is pneumonia?
When a microscopic germ infects the organs related to the respiratory process, it is called pneumonia. It mostly affects the lungs with nose and ear.
If child is under nourished.

Methods to avoid cold and pneumonia.

Protecting child from dirt, dust and smoke.

Not smoking around children.

Providing clothes according to the weather.

Providing clothes which are warm but which provides air circulation.

Completing vaccines with in a year.

Feeding breast milk only for 6 months after birth. After that they should be fed nutritious and fresh food.

Not allowing kids to play in dirty and polluted environment.
Problem of pneumonia
Normally kids get cold when they have pneumonia. But the dangerous disease called pneumonia can affect kids under 5 through cold. Pneumonia is caused when the lungs are infected by germs. In Nepal more than 40 thousand kids under 5 die every year because of it. Actually, the main reason behind death because of pneumonia is not getting medical attention in time.

How to cure cold and pneumonia?
It is important not to be careless when children get cold to avoid pneumonia. Pneumonia can be prevented by taking good care of cold at home. Here are some home remedies.

Keeping warm but not suffocating

Feeding child breast milk a lot of times

Cleaning child’s nose with a clean cloth soaked in salt water

Using home remedies like honey, ginger juice, basil leaves boiled in water with turmeric and feeding the child who have cough and cold.

If the child is above 6 months old, feed them more fluids and liquid regularly as compared to normal.

Checking the child’s breathing regularly.

Situations where child has to be taken to the hospital.

Child is breathing fast.

Is child is not able to drink fluids properly.

If child is not able to suck milk properly.

Id child under 2 months has fever and cold hands and feet.
